Sludge Drying Beds

Built in 2018, the Solar Sludge Drying Beds dry the sludge (“dirt” removed from the Wastewater) by removing the water content (more than 80% in the input wet sludge) solely with the energy received from the sun. This simple but efficient and economic process allows to produce a more than 80% dry sludge.

The facility spans over 10,000 square meters and is divided into 6 production area where the sludge is dried by batch. To facility the drying, the sludge is regularly turned to expose the most humid part to the sun. In 2019, the amount of sludge disposed to the landfill was reduced by more than 90% compared to the same period in 2018.
